What is a Cult?
Question: What is the definition of a cult?
Answer: A cult is a person or group of people that changes the person of Christ (that He is God in the flesh) or the work of Christ (that He completely paid for our salvation on the cross).
Here are some signs on how to identify a cult:
- Cults will deny that Jesus is God in the flesh. They will say that He is "just a man" "a prophet" "an angel" "a god" "one of many gods" "the son of God but not God" etc.
- Cults say that Jesus did not complete the work of salvation on the cross. They will teach that you must do something (like go door-to-door passing out booklets) in order to gain your salvation.
- Cults will add or take away from the Bible. The Mormons add the Book of Mormon to the Bible and the Jehovah's Witnesses make significant changes with their New World Translation.
- Cults claim they are the only way to God. They teach that you must be a member of their sect to receive approval from God.
- Cults use mind control or pressure to keep their members. This is why you usually see them traveling in pairs. One will report on the other if he or she wavers from what their cult teaches.
